Installation

Prerequisites

  • Node.js >= 18.0.0
  • npm >= 9.0.0
  • A GitHub personal access token with repo, project, and read:org scopes
  • GitHub CLI (gh) recommended for token management

The plugin gives you the full ido4 experience: 21 intelligent skills for project intelligence and governance, 4 specialized agents, and automation hooks that fire after key transitions. The MCP server is auto-installed. No clone, no build:

Terminal window
# Set your GitHub token
export GITHUB_TOKEN=$(gh auth token)
# Add the marketplace and install
/plugin marketplace add ido4-dev/ido4-plugins
/plugin install ido4dev@ido4-plugins

Once loaded, you’ll see ido4 tools available in Claude Code.

First time? Run /ido4dev:onboard — it auto-clones a demo codebase, creates a governed sandbox with embedded violations, and walks you through governance discovery in ~10 minutes. See the sandbox demo guide for details.

Already have a project? Run /ido4dev:init to initialize governance on your existing repository, or /ido4dev:health for a quick governance status check.

Option 2: Standalone MCP Server

Install the MCP server package directly:

Terminal window
npm install @ido4/mcp

Configure your MCP client (e.g., Claude Code, or any MCP-compatible environment):

{
"mcpServers": {
"ido4": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["@ido4/mcp"],
"env": {
"GITHUB_TOKEN": "ghp_your_token_here"
}
}
}
}

Option 3: Core Library Only

For programmatic use or building custom integrations:

Terminal window
npm install @ido4/core
import { ServiceContainer } from '@ido4/core';
const container = await ServiceContainer.create({
projectRoot: '/path/to/project',
githubToken: process.env.GITHUB_TOKEN!,
});
// Use any service
const status = await container.containerService.getContainerStatus('wave-001');
const result = await container.taskService.validateTransition(42, 'start', actor);

Option 4: Local Development (Plugin Contributors)

For developing the ido4dev plugin itself:

Terminal window
# Clone the plugin repo
git clone https://github.com/ido4-dev/ido4dev.git
# Clone and build the MCP server
git clone https://github.com/ido4-dev/ido4.git
cd ido4-MCP
npm install && npm run build
# Launch Claude Code with local plugin
claude --plugin-dir ../ido4dev

GitHub Token Scopes

ido4 interacts with GitHub Projects V2 via the GraphQL API. Your token needs:

ScopeWhy
repoRead/write issues, PRs, and repository data
projectRead/write GitHub Projects V2
read:orgRead organization data (for org-owned projects)

Verifying Installation

After setup, verify everything works:

# In Claude Code with the plugin:
> /ido4dev:health
# Or check project status:
> What's the status of our project?
# Claude will call get_project_status automatically
